What is Es Coll Baix like?
Platja des Coll Baix is a 220 m beach of gravel and sand in Alcúdia, set between two rock cliffs about seven kilometres from the town. It lies on the La Victòria public estate, a protected Natural Area of Special Interest, and the 16th-century Talaia d'Alcúdia watchtower guards it. No road reaches the sand, and the beach is classed as isolated, with no urban development.
How do I get to Es Coll Baix, and where do I park?
You can reach Platja des Coll Baix only on foot or by boat, so you cannot drive down to the sand. Alcúdia council recommends doing the whole excursion on foot, though you can cycle or drive as far as the Coll Baix pass. From the pass, a well-signposted path takes you down to the beach in about 30 minutes. The hike crosses farmland, sandy tracks and pine woods, and it is not an easy one. Boats have to anchor some way out, because the water near the shore is shallow.
What are the sand and water like at Es Coll Baix?
Platja des Coll Baix is about 50 m wide, with dark sand among boulders and gravel. Waves are usually moderate. Cliffs close the beach in at both ends, and there is nothing to hire, so bring your own shade.
What facilities does Es Coll Baix have?
Platja des Coll Baix has litter bins and no other services, so carry in all the water and food you need. No lifeguard service is confirmed at Coll Baix. Coll Baix is not on ADEAC's 2026-2027 Blue Flag list.
When is Es Coll Baix busiest?
Platja des Coll Baix gets few visitors, and its occupancy is rated low. With access only on foot or by boat, there is no beach car park to fill up.
Which winds affect Es Coll Baix?
Platja des Coll Baix faces east-northeast, about 73°, so we estimate that east and northeast winds push waves onto it. West and southwest winds blow offshore, so those are usually the calmer days.
- Sheltered from
- southwest, west
- Exposed to
- northeast, east
- Calmer when the wind is from the northeast: Alcanada (3.3 km)
What should I watch out for at Es Coll Baix?
At Platja des Coll Baix, take care on the last part of the path down: the council says the descent is not dangerous, but the trail fades near the bottom. Wear sturdy shoes, and keep enough water for the climb back up to the pass. There is no official water-quality sampling point at Coll Baix.
